Biodiversity and Ecology
Marscco provides a range of research services on biodiversity (species composition) and ecology of juvenile and adult fishes targeted to rapid Baseline Surveys, environmental impact assessments and monitoring. Services cover all aquatic habitats, from freshwater and estuarine systems to offshore deep-sea slope waters, with quantitative/qualitative data examined using standard univariate and multivariate statistical metrics. Sampling include passive (netting) and active fishing methods i.e., electric reels for deep-sea fishing, electrofishing and underwater visual surveys.
Services include:
- Fish species identifications for species composition and diversity
- Spatial and temporal distribution and occurrence
- Length and weight frequency analyses
- Reproductive biology (GSI - Gonadosomatic Index)
- Levels (concentrations) of Heavy Metals in soft tissues (muscle, livers)
- Ecological Risk Assessments (ERAs) and evaluaton of fishing practices
